While we were in Washington to move Tyleigh home from Longview,
we decided to take a quick trip to Seattle!
We explored everything we could possibly fit into one day!
I had always heard about the famous gum wall there. I had no idea it was an entire alley of chewed gum.
It was disgusting, fascinating and entertaining all in one!
I read that the wall was started in 1990, but it is actually cleaned off every couple of years, which makes the amount of gum there even more mind-blowing!
We couldn't leave without adding our own gum to the mix!
We explored as much of Pike Place Market as we possibly could!
The amount of fish for sale was crazy! It was fun to watch the fisherman
toss the fish around for entertainment!
As dirty as everyone told us Seattle was, it had so much unique beauty to it as well.
The Seattle Great Wheel combined with the ocean and lighting was gorgeous!
The space needle was really fun to see! We decided we wanted to use our time exploring other places rather than going to the top, but if we ever go back, we'll definitely go up to the top! I didn't take pictures, but it was fun to see the outside of the Pop Culture Museum and Chihuly Glass and Garden as well.
This big guy is the Fremont Troll. He lives under an overpass. His story:
In 1990, the Fremont Arts Council launched an art competition for the area under the bridge with the intent to construct hostile architecture to deter the presence of "rodents, mattresses, beer cans, and guys sleeping" there, believing that the solution to the issue was "having a piece of art" instead.
We walked through the Troll's Knoll Garden. It was really fun to see - it's essentially a community garden guarded by the Fremont Troll, but it also has some unique art pieces and sculptures in it.
These are the Seattle Spheres. They are indoor gardens. We didn't go inside, but the plants we could see were really beautiful!
We had to check out Lady Yum Macaroons - they are gorgeous and had so many fun flavors. I'm not the biggest macaroon fan, but it was fun to try a few anyway!
We heard that Kerry Park was the place to watch the sunset, and it definitely was!
You could see the whole city from there!
We checked out the Seattle Target because it was three stories -
it wasn't nearly as impressive as we hoped!
We made up for it by finding one of the six Northwest Trolls. His name is Bruun Idun. He was absolutely beautiful. He is made out of recycled materials - mostly bark and natural resources.
Bruun Idun is playing a flute with a song for the orcas to call them back to the Salish Sea.
It's difficult to tell from the picture, but he is actually 16 feet tall!
After a fun day of exploring Seattle, we got to meet up with Rod's aunt and uncle and cousins (Maggie, Richard, Doug, Kim and Dan Madsen). They took us to a yummy Italian dinner restaurant.
It was great to catch up with them!
