We left Rome this morning and headed to Florence!
What a cool city!
This is the beautiful hotel we stayed in.
The bridge and water were just outside of our hotel - we walked EVERYWHERE!
So many cool art pieces that had so much symbolism!
There were SO many people in Florence!
The signs all over Florence were so entertaining!
We did a walking tour of Florence with a guide - one of the most impressive buildings was the Duomo (the Florence Cathedral). It is one of the greatest masterpieces of Gothic Art and is one of the largest churches in Christianity.
The interior height of the dome is 328 feet. We really wanted to go to the top, but we waited too long to get tickets.
I tried to capture the details on the building - they were incredible,
but pictures just don't do justice.
There are statues EVERYWHERE! They all tell a story.
This is the museum that houses the famous statue of "David."
The architecture in Florence is beautiful and violent at the same time.
We got to go in the museum and actually see Michaelangelo's "David."
I had a friend tell me she cried when she saw him.
While I definitely didn't feel emotional, he was a beautiful piece of art!
He is 14 feet of marble and is said to be perfectly proportionate.
It rained just enough to produce this beautiful rainbow!
We asked for dinner suggestions and our travel agents told us to try this steakhouse.
Rod and Scott were in HEAVEN. They each got their own steak and ate the whole gigantic piece! They both claim it's the best they've ever had!
According to Scott, it was "SO GOOD!"
The sweetest old man was sitting next to us by himself. He had the most interesting looking dish. He spoke very little English, but we eventually figured out that he was eating cow brain. He offered some to Scott - and Scott took some. We about died!
Scott did pay for his dinner and it made the sweet man cry.
It was fun to see the bridge and river at night - these little boats were
taking people for rides!
And of course, we finished off the night with . . . you got it! Gelato!
