Rod and I got home from Spain on Wednesday, unpacked, did laundry, and packed back up to leave for Cabo on Sunday!
We had a very quick and easy direct flight into Cabo. We pulled up to the most bougie hotel Rod and I have ever stayed in - and we have stayed in some beautiful places! It. Was. SO. HOT. Oh my gosh. Within minutes of being outside, we were dripping sweat. Our room wasn't ready, so we asked to get clothes out of our luggage and quickly changed into swimming suits and shorts. It didn't really help. We were still dripping. The hotel was a wellness spa called One&Only Palmilla. Luxury doesn't even begin to describe it. We were greeted with a cleansing smoke and given a blessing as we walked in. We explored the grounds a little, then met up with Rod's friend for a quick lunch. We decided to walk along the beach in hopes of finding sea glass . . . but there was none! We were a little surprised, but enjoyed the walk! We got checked into our GORGEOUS room that had the most spectacular view of the ocean and beach below.
This is the only time this entire trip that we actually had swimming suits on.
We eventually got ready for our group dinner and joined them all on the beach just outside of our room. The sunset was beautiful!
The director got up and talked about the itinerary for the week and said that due to the weather, they were cancelling some of the activities. We had no idea that a hurricane was rolling in . . .
We were up fairly early the next morning, so we got up and went to the gym, enjoyed the beautiful sunrise, then got dressed to go into Cabo San Lucas to shop.
When we took the girls to Cabo several years ago, we actually got to see this sea lion in person. It was fun to see a statue of him. He is Cabo's mascot! We didn't find him on this trip though.
While we were downtown, it started to rain just a little. Businesses were putting out sandbags and prepping for flooding.
The storm had definitely started to roll in, but it also created the most beautiful sunset!
The rain started to come down pretty hard - but it was actually pretty fun to watch. We weren't scared and didn't feel like we were in any danger.
The waves were definitely getting bigger though - they were about 25-30 foot swells. That was crazy to watch!
But in the middle of the night, the storm HIT. The lightning and thunder were insane! Rod was watching it from our balcony door and at one point, the lightning hit so close that he actually jumped back away from the door!
We woke up to go to they gym and there was water everywhere. Many of the employees had to stay overnight to help with the flooding. They had sandbags and sump pumps in several areas on the property.
We had massages that day and it just down poured!
After our massages, we didn't do a whole lot besides watch the rain!
Luckily, we weren't in the path of the eye of Hurricane Priscilla, but it sure made for a wild tropical storm!

The hotel property was still beautiful, and since there wasn't much else we could do - no swimming, no laying out, no getting in the ocean . . . we spent a lot of time just walking around the huge property!
No one was allowed in the pools.
At one point, they pulled all the hurricane shutters on all of the rooms. We completely understood that it was to protect their property, but we literally felt like we were in jail.
If the shutters were up to protect us, we didn't do a very good job of listening or obeying. We got SO bored, so we went outside to watch the waves frequently.
Nature is incredible. Beautiful, yet SO destructive! All the sand from the beach we arrived to was gone. The showers to wash our feet off with - gone.
The storm calmed enough that we were still able to participate in one activity we had planned. Sky-Biking. It was about an hour drive from our hotel to get there. It was kind of sad to see all the water, mud, and sand on the roads on the way there. It seems like Mexico should be more well-equipped to deal with hurricane season, but I'm not sure how any place can prepare for that amount of water and wind.
I'll be the first to admit Sky Biking was not on my bucket list. I wasn't overly thrilled about it - not because I was afraid, but it just looked . . . well, dumb. It ended up being fun and it was so nice to get out of our room and away from the hotel. (I had even started looking for earlier flights home, but due to the weather, there weren't any. At least we didn't get stuck in Cabo longer.)
This is one of the bike towers.
It's essentially a zip line - except you have to pedal the bike to get from one tower to the other. It was surprisingly a LOT harder than it looked!
One line was going against the powerful winds and if you stopped pedaling, you were stuck! There were only three towers, but it was a workout!
This was the view from up above. The park also offered horse back riding and camel rides.

These cool sculptures are made out of all sorts of bits and pieces and they were gorgeous!

We went back to the hotel and had our group farewell dinner and packed up to go home!
Our last morning in Cabo was PERFECT weather. Absolutely gorgeous. Wouldn't you know!
However, this is what used to be the beach - once covered in sand, now nothing but jagged rocks.
This poor little baby either got washed up by the insane waves or didn't make it down the beach with it's mama. It made me so sad.

If you watch closely in this video, you can see hundreds and hundreds of butterflies. It was like confetti falling from the sky. We asked our taxi driver and he said it's butterfly season. They just waited to come out until after the rain. It was a beautiful scene!
Not quite the trip we thought we'd have, but it was an adventure none-the-less. We are worn out and so ready to be home and back to a routine, but as always, feel beyond grateful and blessed to have so many incredible experiences and adventures and to have the opportunity to see our beautiful world!
