Onaqui Horse Herd 2

Last time Rod and I saw this incredible herd of horses, we were by ourselves. We told the girls about them and they wanted to see the herd as well! They were a little nervous about driving on the dirt road and getting stuck, so we all went together! Thank goodness Rod is a confident driver because we got into some slick areas between mud and snow! It took us quite a while to find any horses and they were pretty mellow today, but it was still so cool to see them!

Rod is the best! Carsyn had foot surgery in January and is non-weight bearing for the most part still. We also didn't want her toes to get wet and muddy, so Rod carried her quite a long distance so she could get close to the horses as well.

Onaqui Wild Horse Herd

I have always heard about the wild horses here in Utah, but have never seen them! Rod and I randomly decided to take a drive to see if we could find them.

At first, we only found this gray stallion. He must have been exiled from the herd because he was completely alone and covered in scars.

We didn't think we would find the rest of the herd because it seemed as though we just kept driving and driving with no sightings.

Then we saw this!
We got as close as we felt the horses were comfortable with.
It was amazing to watch them. It's obvious they are not domesticated in any way, and that life is sometimes rough on them.
A lot of the herd gathered on this hill - just a little distance away from a watering hole. There were colts, mares, stallions, young and old.

We watched the colts play and run, but these two just kept sparring.

This was such a fun adventure!
