Maui 2023 (Day 6)

 Today was AMAZING!

Rod and I decided to drive the Road to Hana!

It is a famous, scenic drive on Maui known for its waterfalls, rainforests, and cultural landmarks.  It is 64.4 miles total, has 56 one-lane bridges and 617 curves.  It's nicknamed Divorce Highway.

Haiku - Wailuanui

It definitely rained - it is a rainforest!
One thing that was really fun was having cell phones and internet - and therefore a guide!
I know girls, we're old, but we didn't have access to anything to know where to stop the first time we visited! It was so fun to see some things we missed the first time!
One of those places was the Garden of Eden Arboretum. It was gorgeous!
There was a 100 year old mango tree, rainbow eucalyptus tree, bamboo, and Puohokamoa Falls.

We wanted to record some of the crazy turns!

Last time we were here, we looked like this  . . .

Another Road to Hana throwback!

Another super fun stop was the Hana Lava Tubes.
We were given flashlights to walk through them.

We hiked into Red Sand Beach. It was beautiful.

This guy was just chilling - he was unfazed by us or any other human.

The Seven Sacred Pools were absolutely beautiful - it was much harder to see them because they are now part of a National Park and you have to pay to get in - and they are blocked off in a lot of areas. When we were there 25 years ago, you could just walk up and swim in them.  Apparently, there have been multiple injuries and deaths over the years, so I guess it's justified.

We really took our time today and just enjoyed the journey and each other's company. We had so much fun and were able to appreciate the beauty so much more this time around! We had banana bread, a nasty chicken lunch, met some locals and loved every minute of it!
