Rhine River Cruise Day 3 - Bonn

Today, we visited Augustusburg Palace in Bruhl, Germany. It was so pretty!  It was built in the 18th Century. The gardens around the castle were definitely my favorite part!

The ceilings were incredible! There were only a few places we were allowed to take pictures inside - I'm so glad this was something we were able to capture! 

We went to Beethoven's birthplace/childhood home.  He's a weird dude, but we learned some very interesting things about him!

We walked all around Bonn. There was a Palestinian protest going on, which made us all feel a little unsettled, so we just tried to steer clear!

This was the weirdest statue in Bonn! 

We also visited the Haribo Gummy Store.  It originated here and this is the original store! It was three floors of every kind of gummy you can imagine! We bought WAY too many bags of gummy candy to bring home with us!

We had dinner and ice cream with our friends to top off a super fun day!

These were "beheaded" statues in front of a church.

These gold squares are called Stumbling Stones. A German man has now laid over 100,000 of them in 1,200 cities and towns across Europe and Russia. Each stone commemorates a victim outside their last-known freely chosen residence. The inscription on each stone begins “Here lived”, followed by the victim’s name, date of birth, and fate: internment, suicide, exile or, in the vast majority of cases, deportation and murder. It was hard not to get emotional each time we found one.
